Some people dedicate several hours a week to keeping their yard well maintained. Not everyone has the time to do this though as family and work can take up a lot of time. But you don’t need lots of spare hours to keep your yard maintained, you simply need to get into a routine of completing a few tasks here and there so it’s not completely overwhelming. After all, looking after your home takes up enough time, let alone trying to find the time to look after your yard. If you are looking for some simple ways to keep your yard looking great, we’ve put some tips together for you.
Water the grass
You only need to water your grass once a week as this will prevent any serious problems occurring that can often be caused by over-watering. Try to give your grass about an inch of water which can help keep pests away, as they tend to go for dried-out lawns.
Protect your pool
Use a privacy screen to protect your pool from bugs. Quite often frogs, lizards, and mice are found in residential pools, so a privacy screen can help prevent that from happening. They’re also useful for keeping fallen leaves and other debris out. When debris falls to the bottom of the pool it can decompose and make cleaning it much more difficult.
Fertilize the lawn
If you want your lawn looking great all-year-round, then you need to fertilize it regularly to keep it looking green and healthy. Aim to fertilize it twice a year, usually in the spring and fall. You can either do this yourself or hire someone to come out and do it for you. Just ensure that your grass gets enough nourishment.
Trim the bushes
Don’t neglect your bushes as they can end up overgrown and ugly. Some bushes may need trimming more often than others, so try to set aside a day each month that you get this task done. Lopping shears are efficient for trimming bushes.
Clear away debris
When you see debris scattered around your yard, try to clear it immediately. Things such as leaves, branches, twigs, and stones can make a mess and by staying on top of it each week, it will save you from having to set a day aside to deal with it all.
Clean your patio furniture
Most people forget to clean their patio furniture but you should try to do it at least once a year to prevent it from showing signs of wear and tear. There is no point in spending ages maintaining your yard if your patio furniture is going to bring the appearance of it down. If you’re not using it as often, try to cover it up to keep it in good condition.
These are just some of the simple ways you can keep your yard well-maintained. By approaching the chores in the right way and getting into the habit of devoting a short amount of time to it, you will have a great looking yard all year round.
