There are a lot of stunning bright and light homes that we see on Pinterest and around social media. As a result, it is easy to look at your own house and compare why yours doesn’t look like that. If you have a home that is dark and quite dull, then you may be yearning for something that is light and bright, so how do you go about brightening up the home? Here are some tips to help you to do just that.
Wherever it may be possible, look out for some white furniture, rather than having dark colors. Things like bookcases, credenzas, couches, and tables, can all be lighter colors to give a feeling of looking much brighter. If you have some dark flooring, then adding in something lighter, like a white rug or a white side table, can make a simple difference, as any interior decorating expert could tell you. Dirt is more likely to show up on white, but cleaning more is not going to be a bad thing!
Keep furniture away from windows
There will be some rooms and room layouts where it is impossible to avoid having a piece of furniture by the window. But where possible, it is really key to keep these items away, as they can block out the light and keep the room look dark and dingy. It is a good idea to put large pieces of furniture at opposite ends of a room, away from windows. Then you’ll get as much of the goodness as possible.
Mirrors are something that is so handy to have in at home. They can make any room look larger than they really are, which is helpful for much smaller homes. But not only that, mirrors help to reflect the light, helping the room to look much lighter and brighter. Placing them close to windows is also another way to help. So if you have a dark room then it is going to help having a large mirror. Try it and see what difference it can make.
New Light Bulbs
If you have a home that is quite dark, especially in the evening, then could the light bulbs that you have make a difference? If the light bulbs give off a yellow tint, then they could easily be upgraded to some new bright and light LED bulbs, that give off white light, rather than yellow. It is a simple thing that can make a difference. Plus, having some extra light sources, like table lamps and floor lamps, as well as regular lamps, can all make a difference, especially with a white light bulb.
Flowers and Plants
There isn’t much more that can freshen up the space than having plants or flowers in the home. You could choose succulents, large houseplants, and fresh flowers in vases, and it can breathe some new life into the room. They are a small and quite subtle thing that can make such a difference and look really stunning too.
