Interior Design Tricks!

You don’t have to wait for the new year to come around to spruce up your home. Nonetheless, it is around this time of the year that the itch to freshen up, revamp, or completely redesign our house starts to get to us. Following the Christmas season, you might not have the budget to redo your home from top to bottom completely. Hence, a good compromise is to select a room that means something to you and focus your attention on making that space look and feel the way you want it to.

Choosing which room to furnish might be the hardest part of your interior design journey. If your budget only allows for one room (for now), then it will probably be best to furnish a living space you spend a lot of time in. This might be your bedroom, or perhaps your living room. If you want to go for a cozy feel and choose to focus on your bedroom, then start by removing anything that you don’t absolutely love- Marie Kondo style. If it doesn’t bring your joy, then why is it there?

Add a splash of color to bare floors

An elegant rug can go a long way to make an otherwise drab room look and feel luxurious. Give your room that little bit of timeless elegance by adding oriental rugs to your flooring. These look beautiful on your bedroom floor but also make a fabulous addition to any living room and any space that needs a little color pop. It’s worth bearing in mind that the quality of a rug is often reflected in its price, so if you can invest in quality rugs, then do so.

Utilize your storage wisely

Despite the popularity of Kindles and other electronic reading devices, you might belong to the group of people who still favor the feel of pages between their fingers as they read a popular novel or classic piece of literature. The only problem with paperbacks is the storage they take up. You can combine your love of interior design, and your love of literature by making a bookcase a part of your design plan. Choose a leaning bookcase for smaller spaces that you can either lean books against or stack on top of each other. Alternatively, you can transform your hallway into a library by putting up slimline shelves and turning your entryway into an attractive and quirky library. Another way to create more space and reduce the clutter of your bedroom is to invest in a storage bed. You can store your bedding, and any out of season clothing under your bed and forget about it until you need it.

Mirrors and lamps

For a cozy yet bright and cheerful feel to a room, you can utilize mirrors and lighting to great effect. Choose floor-length mirrors to make small spaces look bigger, and dot lamps around your room to create ambiance. Warm lighting will make your room look cozy and welcoming and eliminate the need for harsh overhead lighting.
