If you’re like me, then every morning starts with coffee. It’s a great way to have a little pick-me-up, and you love the smell as it floods through your kitchen. But, what if I told you that you’ve not been getting the most out of your coffee? What if you could enhance the flavor of every cup, just by making a few small changes?
Well, I’ve spoken about cooking the perfect steak before, and you’ve seen plenty of other articles talk about the right way to cook certain foods. So, would you like to know how to brew the perfect cup of coffee? It’s easier than you think, and these are the main steps:
Buy top-quality coffee beans
Every cup of coffee starts with the beans. You need to pay for quality if you want the best tasting cup around! There are loads of options out there, with gourmet brands like Kopi Luwak rising in popularity lately. The best way to know if your coffee is of high quality or not is to look at the reviews and see where it’s from. If it comes from a country that’s known for its coffee, then you’re on the right path.
Grind the beans yourself
Most of the time, you won’t even buy coffee beans. You probably have instant coffee in a can, or you might have finely ground stuff. Coffee is more flavorsome the sooner you drink it after the beans have been ground. So, if you grind them yourself at home, then you instantly unlock loads of flavor. You can use a hand grinder or an electric one, the choice is up to you.

Pick a brewing method
The way you brew your coffee is key to extract all the fine flavors. Now, if you really want the perfect cup of coffee, then the best method is to use a proper coffee machine – like the ones they use in cafes. Realistically, most of you can’t afford this! So, you have a few other methods to choose from, including french press, filter, or Aeropress. For me, the Aeropress works best as it’s relatively inexpensive and works very quickly. There’s a video above that shows it in action, so you know how to get things right. It’s the best way to extract as much flavor from your coffee as possible without spending a fortune.
Let the water cool down
The number one mistake when brewing coffee is using boiling water. Obviously, you need to boil the water beforehand. But, don’t pour it onto your ground coffee right away. If the water is too hot, then you’ll burn the coffee and it tastes bitter. Instead, wait for about a minute or two for the water to cool slightly. Now, it will still be hot enough, but the coffee won’t burn.
Now, all you have to do is follow your chosen brewing method. In just a few minutes, you’ll have a stunning cup of coffee that’s perfect for those tough mornings – and equally excellent at impressing your house guests.
