How To Make A Cheese Board…my personal go-to favorites are manchego, marcona almonds, spanish olives and chorizo sausage with a crunchy french baguette paired with a white pinot grigio. there’s nothing better on the whole planet in my opinion. I love Whole Foods for all my cheese board needs! I’ve included a printable shopping list at the bottom of this post for your convenience:) You can also order all these items on Amazon via Whole Foods!
Here’s what you need to get started!
A solid wooden or slate board. I personally like dark wood pizza paddles. I got mine at Home Goods or TJ Maxx, but you can get them on amazon!
Salty Meats! Prosciutto, salami, sopressata, chorizo, smithfield country ham or mortadella
Cheese! My personal favorites are Midnight Moon, Bella Vittano, Herbed Goat Cheese. I love incorporating goat and sheep’s milk cheese, and I actually prefer them over cow’s milk cheeses.
Be sure to include a soft, semi-soft, semi-hard, and a hard cheese.
Examples here:
Soft: burrata, mozzarella, brie, humboldt fog
Semi-Soft: stilton, roquefort, Gorgonzola, Fontina
Semi-Hard: manchego, Swiss, provolone, comte
Hard: cheddar, parmesan, pecorino, Asiago
Bread/Crackers: crunchy french baguette, ciabatta, bread sticks, herbed crostini, multigrain crackers, water crackers, parmesan crisps. They have an amazing ciabatta crostini at Whole Foods, it’s my favorite!
Fresh fruits: raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, oranges, tangerines, pear, grapes, pomegranate
Salty Acidic Items: think olives, cornichon pickles, olive tapenade, bleu cheese stuffed olives, marinated mushrooms, artichokes (also found at the olive bar at Whole Foods)
Dried fruits: apricots, figs
Nuts: almonds, marcona almonds, cashews
Spreads: apricot spread, chutney, fresh wild local honey, tapenade, fig jam, pepper jelly
Garnish: rosemary, basil, thyme
And don’t forget the wine!!!! I’m a member of California Wine Club and get wine shipped to my house every month! That way I always have a fresh set of new wines to try with my boards!
